On October 19th, 1994, the old became new when the “Floor on the Wall” was dedicated to The Austin Public Education Foundation.
The “Floor on the Wall” was created by the AHS Alumni & Friends Association with the theme “Preserving the Past and Planning the Future,” which reflects what the wall represents.
Part of the solid maple floor of the old 1921 gym was restored and now dominates the wall of the south lobby of Austin High School as a lasting tribute to donors to the endowment funds of the Austin Public Education Foundation. Individuals and couples who give $250.00 or more, and organizations and businesses who donate $500.00 or more, are recognized with a plate on the wall.
Donors may also choose to honor an individual, event, or program associated with the Austin Public Schools. The wall encompasses the names of many people who recall fondly their school experiences and wish to help preserve the tradition of quality education for future students.
